En programmant cette travers\u00e9e, la Nasa esp\u00e8re ainsi collecter de nouvelles informations sur les activit\u00e9s de l\u2019oc\u00e9an et les conditions permettant \u00e0 la vie d\u2019exister dans ce milieu. Ces pr\u00e9cieuses donn\u00e9es permettront aux experts d\u2019en conna\u00eetre davantage sur l\u2019hydrothermalisme, une source de chaleur essentielle pour l\u2019\u00e9closion de la vie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Les scientifiques s\u2019interrogent sur la pr\u00e9sence possible de mol\u00e9cules d\u2019hydrog\u00e8nes, \u00ab\u00a0un \u00e9l\u00e9ment cl\u00e9 pour l\u2019habitabilit\u00e9, au fond de cet oc\u00e9an\u201d selon les mots de Linda Spilker, une responsable scientifique de la mission au Jet Propulsion Laboratory de la Nasa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Loin d\u2019une r\u00e9elle plong\u00e9e d\u2019un quelconque instrument dans des eaux extraterrestres, la man\u0153uvre pr\u00e9vue ce mercredi 28 octobre 2015 \u00e0 16h22 (heure fran\u00e7aise) vaut tout de m\u00eame son pesant d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat : l\u2019engin spatial, en vol depuis 2004 autour de la plan\u00e8te aux anneaux, va traverser les jets de mati\u00e8re observ\u00e9s au p\u00f4le Sud de la sixi\u00e8me de ses satellites naturels.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BZ1KowQXc3Y?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=fr-FR&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Depuis septembre, les astrophysiciens savent qu\u2019Encelade, sous sa cro\u00fbte de glace magnifiquement imag\u00e9e par Cassini, abrite une couche d\u2019eau liquide de quelques kilom\u00e8tres d\u2019\u00e9paisseur. Cette coque laisse s\u2019\u00e9chapper de la vapeur et des miettes de glaces. Le m\u00e9canisme \u00e0 l\u2019origine de ce d\u00e9gazage demeure encore mal connu, tant l\u2019explication du ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne d\u00e9pend du mod\u00e8le utilis\u00e9 pour la structure interne d\u2019Encelade. Parmi les th\u00e9ories, l\u2019une propose que ces jets proviendraient de poches de vapeur d\u2019eau sous pression lov\u00e9es sous la surface, \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re des geysers terrestres. Une autre hypoth\u00e8se fait intervenir un m\u00e9canisme de sublimation de la glace de surface, r\u00e9chauff\u00e9e en profondeur par une \u00abm\u00e9lasse\u00bb plus ou moins liquide et \u00abchaude\u00bb compos\u00e9e d\u2019eau et d\u2019ammoniac. Ces derniers \u00aboffrent de grands potentiels sous leur surface de glace pour que la vie y existe\u00bb ailleurs que sur la Terre dans le syst\u00e8me solaire. \u00abUn jour, nous pourrions peut-\u00eatre y vivre nous-m\u00eames\u00bb, a-t-il ajout\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Avant cela, peut-\u00eatre des missions spatiales rapporteront-elles sur Terre un peu de cette eau extraterrestre. C\u2019est en tous les cas ce dont r\u00eave une \u00e9quipe de chercheurs de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 d\u2019Arizona et de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Sample Exploration Systems, \u00e0 la Canada, en Californie: ils affirment avoir r\u00e9alis\u00e9 les plans d\u2019une mission \u00e0 bas co\u00fbts (environ 700 millions de dollars seulement), nomm\u00e9e Life Investigation for Enceladus (LIFE), et capable de ramener dans des capsules un peu des composants de ces geysers polaires d\u2019Encelade, dont de l\u2019eau, des sels et des compos\u00e9s organiques. \u00abPouvoir disposer de tels \u00e9chantillons serait ph\u00e9nom\u00e9nal\u00bb, a expliqu\u00e9 au site Space.com Peter Tsou, l\u2019un des responsables de cette mission. Pour l\u2019heure, cette mission demeure toutefois un concept qui n\u2019a pas encore s\u00e9duit la Nasa. L\u2019agence spatiale am\u00e9ricaine a en effet lanc\u00e9 un concours id\u00e9es dans ce sens, dans le cadre de son programme Discovery de petites missions \u00e0 bas co\u00fbts, pour un premier lancement possible d\u00e8s 2021. Le but : mesurer les flux de chaleur \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur du satellite, ce qui devrait nous renseigner sur ce qui provoque les geysers.
