Baptis\u00e9 windbot, ce drone d\u00e9pourvu d\u2019ailes et de m\u00e9canisme de propulsion pourrait ainsi se d\u00e9placer et s\u2019alimenter en exploitant les conditions atmosph\u00e9riques de la plan\u00e8te. Explications.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Des vents extr\u00eamement violents pouvant atteindre les 600 km\/h, des temp\u00e9ratures oscillant entre -140 \u00b0C au niveau de sa haute atmosph\u00e8re et 24 000 \u00b0C pr\u00e8s de son centre : telles sont les conditions m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques r\u00e9gnant sur Jupiter. Avec un climat aussi hostile, on comprend \u00e0 quel point l\u2019exploration de cette g\u00e9ante gazeuse se r\u00e9v\u00e8le \u00eatre une t\u00e2che particuli\u00e8rement p\u00e9rilleuse. En t\u00e9moigne d\u2019ailleurs le funeste sort de la sonde Galileo qui avait \u00e9t\u00e9 parachut\u00e9e sur Jupiter par la NASA en 1995. Ce drone en forme de poly\u00e8dre, baptis\u00e9 windbot, serait en effet capable de se laisser porter par les vents de l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re jupit\u00e9rienne et d\u2019y survivre ainsi bien plus longtemps que son homologue envoy\u00e9 20 ans plus t\u00f4t. \u00ab Une graine de pissenlit peut flotter longtemps dans l\u2019air, car elle tourne en tombant et cr\u00e9e ainsi un mouvement ascendant. Nous allons explorer cet effet avec nos windbots \u00bb, a expliqu\u00e9 Adrian Stoicia, du Jet Propulsion Laboratory de la Nasa, relay\u00e9 par le site Sciences &amp; Avenir.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ainsi, en l\u2019absence d\u2019\u00e9nergie solaire exploitable du fait de l\u2019imposante couche nuageuse de Jupiter, le windbot pourrait se servir de l\u2019\u00e9nergie offerte naturellement par les conditions atmosph\u00e9riques de la plan\u00e8te pour se maintenir en l\u2019air. Or, si les fluctuations de temp\u00e9rature et le champ magn\u00e9tique de la g\u00e9ante gazeuse repr\u00e9sentent des sources d\u2019\u00e9nergie potentiellement exploitables, l\u2019\u00e9quipe du JPL mise surtout sur l\u2019importante variabilit\u00e9 des vents pour alimenter sa future sonde. En effet, ces derniers cr\u00e9ent d\u2019importantes turbulences atmosph\u00e9riques dont la force pourrait \u00eatre utilis\u00e9e pour alimenter les batteries du Windbot.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Notons toutefois que cette sonde n\u2019en est encore qu\u2019au stade de simple projet d\u2019\u00e9tude et que l\u2019agence spatiale am\u00e9ricaine ignore encore si le proc\u00e9d\u00e9 sera r\u00e9ellement efficace sur le terrain.
