L&rsquo;agence spatiale am\u00e9ricaine a identifi\u00e9 cette \u00e9ruption comme \u00e9tant une \u00e9jection de masse coronale (en rouge sur les images). Le Soleil \u00e9volue en effet par cycle de onze ans, se caract\u00e9risant par des p\u00e9riodes d\u2019intense activit\u00e9. Celles-ci se traduisent, \u00e0 la surface de l\u2019\u00e9toile, par un nombre important de taches sombres : ce sont des zones de l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re solaire o\u00f9 le champ magn\u00e9tique est tr\u00e8s fort et la temp\u00e9rature moins \u00e9lev\u00e9e.&nbsp;Elles sont la source&nbsp;des \u00e9ruptions solaires.&nbsp;Les \u00e9ruptions solaires sont class\u00e9es d\u2019apr\u00e8s l\u2019intensit\u00e9 de leur flux, observ\u00e9 dans la bande des rayons X et mesur\u00e9 en watts par m\u00e8tre carr\u00e9 (W\/m2). Il y a quatre cat\u00e9gories : B, C, M et X. La classe X d\u00e9signe les \u00e9ruptions les plus intenses, tandis que le chiffre associ\u00e9 donne plus d&rsquo;information sur sa puissance.
