Il s\u2019apparente \u00e0 une mousse syntactique faite de magn\u00e9sium et de particules creuses de carbure de silicium. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 cette composition, les scientifiques ont pu obtenir un mat\u00e9riau aux propri\u00e9t\u00e9s in\u00e9dites, comme la capacit\u00e9 de pouvoir flotter sur l\u2019eau.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Le m\u00e9tal est dot\u00e9 d\u2019une masse volumique de 0,92 gramme par centim\u00e8tre cube, alors que celle de l\u2019eau s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve \u00e0 1 gramme par centim\u00e8tre cube, ce qui le rend donc plus l\u00e9ger que l\u2019eau ! Alors, si un bateau \u00e9tait construit avec ce mat\u00e9riau, le navire ne devrait pas couler, m\u00eame s\u2019il venait \u00e0 \u00eatre endommag\u00e9. Outre sa l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9, le mat\u00e9riau dispose d\u2019une bonne r\u00e9sistance physique, gr\u00e2ce aux sph\u00e8res de silicium qui composent sa surface. \u00abLa coquille d\u2019une seule sph\u00e8re peut r\u00e9sister \u00e0 la pression de plus de 25 000 livres par pouce carr\u00e9 (PSI)\u00bb, indique un communiqu\u00e9 de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9. Pour comparer, cela revient \u00e0 dire qu\u2019une seule sph\u00e8re peut supporter une pression 100 fois sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle d\u00e9gag\u00e9e par une lance \u00e0 incendie, avant de se briser.
