Associ\u00e9s \u00e0 une approche radicale de la conception des a\u00e9rostructures, les d\u00e9veloppements prometteurs des technologies de propulsion \u00e9lectrique pourraient ouvrir la voie \u00e0 la production d&rsquo;avions ultra<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small; color: #000000;\">silencieux et z\u00e9ro \u00e9mission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00ab Le VoltAir est un concept de recherche amont encore loin de la phase de commercialisation \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Jean Botti, Directeur technique (CTO) d&rsquo;EADS. \u00ab Nos travaux de recherche tr\u00e8s avant-gardistes pourraient \u00eatre mis \u00e0 profit dans diverses applications. En tant qu&rsquo;architecte syst\u00e8mes du secteur a\u00e9ronautique, nous repoussons les limites de ce projet de recherche afin de g\u00e9n\u00e9rer de nouvelles id\u00e9es. De nouveaux mat\u00e9riaux aux propri\u00e9t\u00e9s prometteuses sont actuellement examin\u00e9s en vue de leur int\u00e9gration dans des batteries de nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration s&rsquo;appuyant notamment sur les technologies lithium-air et lithium-soufre. Les scientifiques estiment que ces batteries pourraient, dans les vingt prochaines ann\u00e9es, atteindre une densit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 1 000 Wh\/kg, ce qui permettrait de multiplier les performances actuelles au moins par deux. Effectuer au sol le rechargement et la maintenance des batteries permet de r\u00e9duire le poids et la complexit\u00e9 du syst\u00e8me embarqu\u00e9, sans modifier outre mesure les op\u00e9rations a\u00e9roportuaires classiques. Les temps de rotation ne sont pas affect\u00e9s, le \u00ab repowering \u00bb, ou remplacement des batteries, \u00e9tant au moins aussi rapide que le ravitaillement traditionnel.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Les moteurs \u00e9lectriques traditionnels sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement tr\u00e8s efficaces (jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 98 % d&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 propulsive), mais ils ne fournissent pas la densit\u00e9 de puissance (\u00e9nergie produite par unit\u00e9 de masse\/kilowatt par kilogramme) n\u00e9cessaire aux missions a\u00e9riennes de grande envergure. La d\u00e9couverte de mat\u00e9riaux supraconducteurs \u00e0 haute temp\u00e9rature (HTS) apporte la solution \u00e0 ce probl\u00e8me. Les mat\u00e9riaux HTS constituent la base des moteurs supraconducteurs \u00e0 haute densit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique qui apparaissent sur le march\u00e9 et qui sont amen\u00e9s \u00e0 d\u00e9passer la puissance massique des turbomoteurs \u00e0 mesure que leur d\u00e9veloppement progresse. Le refroidissement n\u00e9cessaire de ces moteurs pour atteindre la temp\u00e9rature supraconductrice peut \u00eatre r\u00e9alis\u00e9 \u00e0 moindre co\u00fbt, tout en respectant l&rsquo;environnement, avec de l&rsquo;azote liquide. La plate-forme technologique VoltAir pr\u00e9suppose que les moteurs HTS atteindront une densit\u00e9 de puissance de 7-8 kW\/kg avec des pertes \u00e9lectriques quasi nulles.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">En plus des avantages li\u00e9s \u00e0 son syst\u00e8me de propulsion, la plate-forme technologique VoltAir offre aux futurs passagers des conditions de vol am\u00e9lior\u00e9es. L&rsquo;optimisation du fuselage en vue d&rsquo;une meilleure a\u00e9rodynamique diminuera consid\u00e9rablement les niveaux sonores dus au flux d&rsquo;air circulant le long du rev\u00eatement.
