Dans le monde entier, il n&rsquo;existe que quelques fabricants de silicium cristallin et leurs lignes de production sont d\u00e9j\u00e0 au maximum de leurs capacit\u00e9s. Lors d&rsquo;une r\u00e9union, l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, du Conseil critique sur les mat\u00e9riaux, Sematech (association d&rsquo;industries du semi-conducteur), les analystes ont pr\u00e9vu un manque de 6.000 tonnes de poly-silicium cette ann\u00e9e, 12.000 tonnes en 2007, et 20.000 tonnes l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e suivante.<\/p>\n<p>Les chercheurs de la compagnie Dow Corning viennent r\u00e9cemment d&rsquo;annoncer qu&rsquo;ils ont d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 un mat\u00e9riau d\u00e9riv\u00e9 du silicium \u00ab\u00a0m\u00e9tallurgique\u00a0\u00bb, qui peut \u00eatre m\u00e9lang\u00e9 \u00e0 du silicium poly-cristallin traditionnel de grande puret\u00e9 pour fabriquer des cellules photovolta\u00efques de bonne qualit\u00e9. Le silicium \u00ab\u00a0m\u00e9tallurgique\u00a0\u00bb est normalement employ\u00e9 dans les applications telles que le raffinage de l&rsquo;acier, et comme ingr\u00e9dient de base pour d&rsquo;autres produits chimiques.
