Ou bien un royaume glacial, encore plus froid que Mars, incapable d&rsquo;abriter la vie.<\/p>\n<p>Les marges d&rsquo;erreur sont infimes lorsqu&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;\u00e9tudier des plan\u00e8tes extrasolaires. Mais cette nouvelle plan\u00e8te candidate, baptis\u00e9e HD 137010 b, est une d\u00e9tection particuli\u00e8rement prometteuse qui laisse entrevoir un monde habitable ressemblant \u00e0 bien des \u00e9gards au n\u00f4tre.<\/p>\n<p>Comme le d\u00e9taille une nouvelle \u00e9tude publi\u00e9e dans The Astrophysical Journal Letters et mise en lumi\u00e8re par la NASA , cet avant-poste rocheux orbite autour d&rsquo;une \u00e9toile semblable au Soleil et a une taille presque identique \u00e0 celle de la Terre. Son orbite est \u00e9galement quasiment la m\u00eame, d&rsquo;une dur\u00e9e d&rsquo;environ 355 jours terrestres. Mieux encore ? Il est pratiquement \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de chez nous.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Ce qui est particuli\u00e8rement fascinant avec cette plan\u00e8te de la taille de la Terre, c&rsquo;est que son \u00e9toile se situe \u00e0 seulement 150 ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re de notre syst\u00e8me solaire \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Chelsea Huang, chercheuse \u00e0 l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 du Queensland du Sud en Australie et co-auteure de l&rsquo;\u00e9tude, au Guardian . \u00ab La plan\u00e8te la plus proche orbitant autour d&rsquo;une \u00e9toile semblable au Soleil, dans une zone habitable, [Kepler-186f], est environ quatre fois plus \u00e9loign\u00e9e et 20 fois moins lumineuse. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Les chercheurs ont d\u00e9couvert cette plan\u00e8te candidate en analysant les donn\u00e9es recueillies par le t\u00e9lescope spatial Kepler de la NASA en 2017. Celui-ci n&rsquo;a d\u00e9tect\u00e9 qu&rsquo;un seul transit de l&rsquo;exoplan\u00e8te, au cours duquel elle passe devant son \u00e9toile, provoquant une baisse de luminosit\u00e9 perceptible. Ce transit a n\u00e9anmoins fourni suffisamment d&rsquo;indices pour d\u00e9duire sa taille et sa vitesse.<\/p>\n<p>La principale diff\u00e9rence entre notre syst\u00e8me stellaire et celui de l&rsquo;exoplan\u00e8te candidate r\u00e9side dans l&rsquo;\u00e9toile elle-m\u00eame. Notre Soleil est une naine jaune de type G, qui br\u00fble de fa\u00e7on stable \u00e0 une temp\u00e9rature mod\u00e9r\u00e9e depuis des milliards d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es. HD 137010, quant \u00e0 elle, est une naine orange de type K, l\u00e9g\u00e8rement plus petite et plus froide. De ce fait, l&rsquo;exoplan\u00e8te candidate re\u00e7oit potentiellement moins d&rsquo;un tiers de la lumi\u00e8re et de la chaleur que re\u00e7oit la Terre, avec des temp\u00e9ratures estim\u00e9es inf\u00e9rieures \u00e0 -90 degr\u00e9s Fahrenheit. \u00c0 titre de comparaison, Mars affiche une temp\u00e9rature d&rsquo;environ -85 degr\u00e9s Fahrenheit.<\/p><div class=\"1665f18d14f35dd9e7566e1a8ac9a3e9\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2860849627502538\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3019501113\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>La question de savoir si les petites \u00e9toiles, comme les naines oranges et rouges, sont des h\u00f4tes id\u00e9aux pour les plan\u00e8tes habitables fait l&rsquo;objet de vifs d\u00e9bats parmi les astronomes. En effet, pour rester dans leur zone habitable, une plan\u00e8te doit orbiter tr\u00e8s pr\u00e8s d&rsquo;elles. \u00c0 une telle proximit\u00e9, elle pourrait \u00eatre en rotation synchrone avec son \u00e9toile, un \u00e9tat l&#8217;emp\u00eachant de tourner sur elle-m\u00eame et la for\u00e7ant \u00e0 pr\u00e9senter ind\u00e9finiment la m\u00eame face \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9toile.<\/p>\n<p>Cela dit, il est fort probable que HD 137010 b soit un monde temp\u00e9r\u00e9, voire aquatique, si son atmosph\u00e8re est beaucoup plus riche en dioxyde de carbone que celle de la Terre, ce qui lui permettrait de retenir la faible chaleur qu&rsquo;elle re\u00e7oit. On pense que Mars a elle aussi \u00e9t\u00e9 autrefois chaude et humide , avant que son atmosph\u00e8re, probablement elle aussi satur\u00e9e de CO2, ne disparaisse en grande partie il y a des milliards d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Des observations compl\u00e9mentaires sont n\u00e9cessaires avant de trancher la question. Sara Webb, astrophysicienne \u00e0 l&rsquo;universit\u00e9 Swinburne, a qualifi\u00e9 la d\u00e9couverte d&rsquo;\u00ab excitante \u00bb, mais a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 au Guardian que trois transits, et non un seul, constituent la r\u00e9f\u00e9rence absolue en plan\u00e9tologie.
