Apr\u00e8s un examen plus approfondi, il s&rsquo;est av\u00e9r\u00e9 que ces roches \u00e9taient de la kaolinite, une argile riche en aluminium, comme l&rsquo;ont indiqu\u00e9 les scientifiques dans une \u00e9tude publi\u00e9e le 1er d\u00e9cembre dans la revue Communications Earth &amp; Environment .<\/p>\n<p>Sur Terre, la kaolinite se forme presque toujours dans des conditions tr\u00e8s chaudes et humides, comme celles que l&rsquo;on trouve dans les for\u00eats tropicales humides. Elle se forme g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement dans des roches qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9nud\u00e9es de tous leurs autres min\u00e9raux par des millions d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es de pluies r\u00e9guli\u00e8res. Or, Mars est aujourd&rsquo;hui r\u00e9put\u00e9e pour son froid et sa s\u00e9cheresse.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Ainsi, lorsque l\u2019on observe de la kaolinite sur un endroit comme Mars, o\u00f9 il fait aride, froid et o\u00f9 il n\u2019y a certainement pas d\u2019eau liquide \u00e0 la surface, cela nous indique qu\u2019il y avait autrefois beaucoup plus d\u2019eau qu\u2019il n\u2019y en a aujourd\u2019hui \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Adrian Broz , p\u00e9dologue \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 Purdue et auteur principal de l\u2019\u00e9tude, dans un communiqu\u00e9 .<\/p>\n<p>Broz et son \u00e9quipe ont compar\u00e9 la structure de la kaolinite martienne, analys\u00e9e par plusieurs instruments de Perseverance, avec des \u00e9chantillons terrestres pr\u00e9lev\u00e9s en Afrique du Sud et \u00e0 San Diego. Les roches pr\u00e9sentaient des similitudes frappantes, sugg\u00e9rant une formation similaire.<\/p>\n<p>Les images satellites de la surface martienne semblent r\u00e9v\u00e9ler d&rsquo;importants gisements de kaolinite ailleurs sur la plan\u00e8te. Mais ce processus \u00e9tait probablement complexe et multifactoriel.
