Alors que certains soutiennent que Mars devrait rester vierge, le d\u00e9bat \u00e9thique autour de la terraformation n\u00e9cessite d&rsquo;abord de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la question pratique : \u00ab Pouvons-nous r\u00e9ellement le faire ? \u00bb \u00c9tonnamment, les recherches approfondies sur la faisabilit\u00e9 de la terraformation de Mars n&rsquo;ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 mises \u00e0 jour depuis 1991, mais un nouvel article publi\u00e9 dans Nature Astronomy jette un regard neuf sur cette possibilit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;\u00e9quipe dirig\u00e9e par Erika Alden DeBenedictis de Pioneer Research Labs a mis en \u00e9vidence des avanc\u00e9es r\u00e9centes dans trois domaines cl\u00e9s qui devraient relancer l&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat pour la recherche sur la terraformation de Mars : l&rsquo;am\u00e9lioration de la mod\u00e9lisation du climat et des techniques d&rsquo;ing\u00e9nierie, les perc\u00e9es dans la compr\u00e9hension des organismes extr\u00eamophiles et de la biologie synth\u00e9tique, et les d\u00e9veloppements significatifs dans la technologie spatiale comme le vaisseau Starship de SpaceX qui pourrait r\u00e9duire les co\u00fbts de la charge utile vers Mars de 1000\u00d7. Malgr\u00e9 l&rsquo;hostilit\u00e9 de son environnement actuel, Mars poss\u00e8de suffisamment de r\u00e9serves de glace et de nutriments pour abriter la vie si les temp\u00e9ratures augmentent d&rsquo;au moins 30\u00b0C. Les nouvelles m\u00e9thodes de r\u00e9chauffement, notamment les miroirs solaires, les a\u00e9rosols artificiels et les modifications de la surface \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide de mat\u00e9riaux tels que l&rsquo;a\u00e9rogel de silice, semblent plus efficaces que les propositions ant\u00e9rieures.
