Une avanc\u00e9e majeure qui ravive s\u00e9rieusement la question de la vie ailleurs dans l\u2019Univers.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019espoir d\u2019un jour prouver que nous ne sommes pas seuls dans l\u2019univers vient peut-\u00eatre de franchir un cap d\u00e9cisif. Gr\u00e2ce au t\u00e9lescope spatial James Webb, une \u00e9quipe internationale de chercheurs vient d\u2019identifier, dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re de l\u2019exoplan\u00e8te K2-18b, les empreintes chimiques de deux mol\u00e9cules intrigantes : le sulfure de dim\u00e9thyle (DMS) et le disulfure de dim\u00e9thyle (DMDS). Sur Terre, ces compos\u00e9s sont produits uniquement par des organismes vivants, comme certaines microalgues marines. Et jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, on ne les avait jamais d\u00e9tect\u00e9s ailleurs.<\/p>\n<p>James Webb d\u00e9tecte des mol\u00e9cules li\u00e9es \u00e0 la vie sur K2-18b<\/p>\n<p>Situ\u00e9e \u00e0 124 ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re, dans la constellation du Lion, K2-18b intrigue depuis des ann\u00e9es. Cette plan\u00e8te 2,6 fois plus large que la Terre et 8,6 fois plus massive est class\u00e9e comme hyc\u00e9enne, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire potentiellement recouverte d\u2019un oc\u00e9an global sous une atmosph\u00e8re riche en hydrog\u00e8ne. Un combo propice \u00e0 l\u2019apparition de la vie telle qu\u2019on la conna\u00eet.D\u00e9j\u00e0 en 2023, les m\u00eames chercheurs avaient rep\u00e9r\u00e9 du m\u00e9thane (CH\u2084) et du dioxyde de carbone (CO\u2082) dans son atmosph\u00e8re \u2014 premi\u00e8re d\u00e9tection de mol\u00e9cules carbon\u00e9es sur une exoplan\u00e8te situ\u00e9e en zone habitable. Le niveau de confiance, \u00e0 trois sigma, reste encore en de\u00e7\u00e0 du seuil officiel de d\u00e9couverte, mais il est d\u00e9j\u00e0 significatif. Pour les chercheurs, c\u2019est clair : un monde oc\u00e9anique baign\u00e9 dans une atmosph\u00e8re douce, peut-\u00eatre peupl\u00e9 de formes de vie microscopiques, est le sc\u00e9nario qui colle le mieux aux donn\u00e9es. Reste maintenant \u00e0 affiner les observations, lever les derniers doutes, et surtout garder la t\u00eate froide.
