Surnomm\u00e9e \u00ab\u00a0l&rsquo;\u00e9toile colossale\u00a0\u00bb, elle est environ 2.000 fois plus grosse que le Soleil.<br \/>\nUn clich\u00e9 exceptionnel. Des scientifiques de l&rsquo;Observatoire europ\u00e9en austral (ESO) ont r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 prendre l&rsquo;image d\u00e9taill\u00e9e d&rsquo;une \u00e9toile dans une galaxie autre que notre Voie lact\u00e9e, une premi\u00e8re qui va leur permettre de mieux \u00e9tudier cet astre en fin de vie.<\/p>\n<p>Distante de 160.000 ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re, l&rsquo;\u00e9toile WOH G64 est situ\u00e9e dans le Grand Nuage de Magellan, une petite galaxie satellite de la n\u00f4tre.<\/p>\n<p>Surnomm\u00e9e \u00ab\u00a0l&rsquo;\u00e9toile colossale\u00a0\u00bb par les astronomes, elle est environ 2.000 fois plus grosse que notre Soleil et est class\u00e9e parmi les superg\u00e9antes rouges, une des derni\u00e8res \u00e9tapes de l&rsquo;\u00e9volution des \u00e9toiles massives avant leur explosion en supernova.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Nous avons d\u00e9couvert un cocon en forme d&rsquo;oeuf entourant \u00e9troitement l&rsquo;\u00e9toile\u00a0\u00bb, d\u00e9taille dans un communiqu\u00e9 de l&rsquo;ESO Keiichi Ohnaka, astrophysicien de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 Andr\u00e9s Bello au Chili.<br \/>\n\u00ab\u00a0La forme ovo\u00efde au centre repr\u00e9sente la mati\u00e8re \u00e9ject\u00e9e par l&rsquo;\u00e9toile centrale et qui l&rsquo;entoure encore. On distingue \u00e9galement un autre anneau ovale entourant cette forme ovo\u00efde. En 2005 et 2007, ces astronomes ont utilis\u00e9 l&rsquo;interf\u00e9rom\u00e8tre du Tr\u00e8s grand t\u00e9lescope (le VLTI) de l&rsquo;ESO au Chili pour en apprendre davantage sur ses caract\u00e9ristiques.
