Il s&rsquo;agit sans doute de la plus forte \u00e9ruption volcanique depuis celle du volcan indon\u00e9sien Krakatoa en 1883<\/p>\n<p>Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha&rsquo;apai est un volcan sous-marin de l&rsquo;Archipel de Tonga situ\u00e9 au nord-est de la Nouvelle Z\u00e9lande, sur l&rsquo;arc volcanique Tonga particuli\u00e8rement actif \u00e0 cause de la subduction de la plaque Pacifique sous la plaque indo-australienne (de 5 \u00e0 8 cm par an).<\/p>\n<p>Le 20 d\u00e9cembre 2021, Hunga Tonga est de nouveau entr\u00e9 en \u00e9ruption avec des explosions violentes et des \u00e9missions de mat\u00e9riaux pyroclastiques qui fa\u00e7onnent cette nouvelle \u00eele dont le c\u00f4ne volcanique atteint 115 m de haut.<\/p>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s une pause de quelques jours, le volcan a connu une violente \u00e9ruption explosive le 15 janvier 2022 dont la phase de g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de panaches volcaniques a dur\u00e9 pas moins de 11 heures !<br \/>\nLa puissance \u00e9tait telle que l&rsquo;onde de choc, visible depuis les satellites spatiaux a fait le tour du monde et a g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 notamment un s\u00e9isme de magnitude 5,8.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 800px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-26330-1\" width=\"800\" height=\"776\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.laterredufutur.com\/accueil\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Tonga-Hunga-onde-choc.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.laterredufutur.com\/accueil\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Tonga-Hunga-onde-choc.mp4\">https:\/\/www.laterredufutur.com\/accueil\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Tonga-Hunga-onde-choc.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>Le bruit de l&rsquo;explosion a \u00e9t\u00e9 facilement audible des \u00eeles Fidji (\u00e0 800 km) jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 Auckland (Nouvelle-Z\u00e9lande) \u00e0 2 000 km de l&rsquo;\u00e9ruption !<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/NiwaWeather\/status\/1482259999724535809?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1482259999724535809%7Ctwgr%5E3ba612e572ff233fad5fb6293fc84ddaf5cd4021%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.notre-planete.info%2Factualites%2F4891-Tonga-Hunga-eruption-volcanique-Terre<\/p>\n<p>Un colossal panache de cendres, d&rsquo;eau et de gaz magmatiques &#8211; d&rsquo;une taille \u00e9quivalent \u00e0 la moiti\u00e9 de la France &#8211; a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9mis, au-del\u00e0 de la stratosph\u00e8re, jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 58 km d&rsquo;altitude, atteignant la m\u00e9sosph\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Selon une \u00e9tude publi\u00e9e en septembre 2024 dans Geophysical Research Letters, l&rsquo;explosion \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine de cette \u00e9ruption volcanique provient probablement de roches comprim\u00e9es par du gaz, pi\u00e9g\u00e9es sous une mer peu profonde. Ce m\u00e9canisme, similaire \u00e0 une cocotte-minute a lib\u00e9r\u00e9 une \u00e9nergie \u00e9quivalente \u00e0 cinq des plus grandes explosions nucl\u00e9aires souterraines r\u00e9alis\u00e9es par la Cor\u00e9e du Nord en 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Cette d\u00e9couverte contraste avec l&rsquo;hypoth\u00e8se courante selon laquelle l&rsquo;interaction entre le magma chaud et l&rsquo;eau froide de la mer serait la cause de l&rsquo;\u00e9ruption volcanique.<\/p>\n<p>Autre cons\u00e9quence : \u00ab\u00a0cette \u00e9ruption a d\u00e9clench\u00e9 un orage surcharg\u00e9 comme nous n&rsquo;en avons jamais vu\u00a0\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Alexa Van Eaton, volcanologue \u00e0 l&rsquo;United States Geological Survey et responsable d&rsquo;une \u00e9tude publi\u00e9e en juin 2023.<\/p>\n<p>D&rsquo;apr\u00e8s des recherches publi\u00e9es fin aout 2022 dans Ocean Engineering, la vague g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9e par l&rsquo;\u00e9ruption du volcan Tonga a atteint 90 m\u00e8tres (c&rsquo;est neuf fois plus que le tsunami de 2011 au Japon) dans un rayon de 6 km.<\/p>\n<p>D&rsquo;apr\u00e8s les premi\u00e8res estimations des chercheurs Brian Schmidt et Richard Arculus publi\u00e9es dans The Sydney Morning Herald, l&rsquo;\u00e9ruption 2022 du Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha&rsquo;apai serait encore plus puissante que celle du Mont Pinatubo aux Philippines en 1991 mais moins que celle du terrible Krakatoa en 1883 en Indon\u00e9sie.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;\u00e9nergie d\u00e9gag\u00e9e lors de l&rsquo;\u00e9ruption du Krakatoa en 1883 a \u00e9t\u00e9 estim\u00e9e \u00e9quivalente \u00e0 une bombe nucl\u00e9aire de 200 Mt TNT, 4 fois plus que la plus puissante bombe nucl\u00e9aire \u00e0 hydrog\u00e8ne jamais test\u00e9e sur Terre.
