C\u2019est la question que se pose une \u00e9quipe de chercheurs \u00e0 l\u2019origine d\u2019une trouvaille incroyable. En effet, ils ont d\u00e9couvert la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019un oc\u00e9an gigantesque situ\u00e9 \u00e0 plus de 700km de profondeur, sous la surface de la Terre. Tellement gigantesque que son \u00e9tendue est trois fois plus importante que l\u2019ensemble des oc\u00e9ans pr\u00e9sents sur la surface.<\/p>\n<p>Ce myst\u00e9rieux r\u00e9servoir d\u2019eau est dissimul\u00e9 au coeur d\u2019une roche bleue, connue sous le nom de ringwoodite, \u00e0 700km de profondeur dans le manteau terrestre, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire la couche de roches br\u00fblantes situ\u00e9e entre la surface de la Terre et son noyau.<\/p>\n<p>Sa taille immense pourrait permettre d\u2019expliquer l\u2019origine de l\u2019eau sur Terre selon les scientifiques. Cette d\u00e9couverte donne effectivement du cr\u00e9dit \u00e0 une th\u00e9orie selon laquelle les oc\u00e9ans ont progressivement suint\u00e9 de l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de la Terre. En revanche, la th\u00e9orie mettant en avant l\u2019impact des com\u00e8tes prend du plomb dans l\u2019aile.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cC\u2019est une preuve tangible que l\u2019eau sur Terre est venue de l\u2019int\u00e9rieur\u201d estime Steven Jacobsen, chercheur \u00e0 la Northwestern University dans l\u2019Illinois, et auteur principal de l\u2019\u00e9tude.<\/p>\n<p>Selon lui, cette eau cach\u00e9e pourrait \u00e9galement servir \u00e0 maintenir la taille des oc\u00e9ans qui n\u2019a jamais disparu depuis des millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es.<\/p><div class=\"1665f18d14f35dd9e7566e1a8ac9a3e9\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2860849627502538\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3019501113\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>Une d\u00e9couverte pour comprendre le cycle de l\u2019eau sur Terre<br \/>\nPour parvenir \u00e0 cette d\u00e9couverte, l\u2019\u00e9quipe de chercheurs a utilis\u00e9 pas moins de 2000 sismographes \u00e0 travers les \u00c9tats-Unis afin d\u2019\u00e9tudier les ondes sismiques g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es par plus de 500 tremblements de terre. Se d\u00e9pla\u00e7ant \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de la Terre, y compris dans le noyau, ces ondes sismiques peuvent \u00eatre d\u00e9tect\u00e9es \u00e0 la surface.<\/p>\n<p>En mesurant la vitesse de ces ondes, en fonction de la profondeur, les chercheurs ont pu d\u00e9terminer quel type de roches elles traversaient. C\u2019est ainsi qu\u2019ils ont d\u00e9tect\u00e9 cet immense r\u00e9servoir d\u2019eau car les ondes ont ralenti lorsqu\u2019elles ont travers\u00e9 la roche humide : \u201cC\u2019est une couche de roches avec de l\u2019eau le long des ar\u00eates entre les grains, un peu comme si elles transpiraient\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNous devrions nous r\u00e9jouir de la pr\u00e9sence de ce r\u00e9servoir. S\u2019il n\u2019\u00e9tait pas l\u00e0, il serait \u00e0 la surface de la Terre et les sommets des montagnes constitueraient la seule terre visible\u201d indique Steven Jacobsen.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e9sormais, les chercheurs esp\u00e8rent r\u00e9colter d\u2019autres donn\u00e9es sismiques \u00e0 travers la plan\u00e8te pour d\u00e9terminer si la fonte du manteau est commune ou non.
