Elle s\u2019appelle Wolf 1069 b. Une \u00e9quipe de 50 astronomes du monde entier vient de d\u00e9couvrir une nouvelle exoplan\u00e8te (une plan\u00e8te qui tourne autour d\u2019une \u00e9toile autre que le Soleil), \u00e0 \u00ab seulement \u00bb 31 ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re de la Terre. Les astronomes en ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 d\u00e9couvert plus de 5 200, mais moins de 200 sont rocheuses, comme Wolf 1069 b.<\/p>\n<p>Cette plan\u00e8te tourne autour d\u2019une \u00e9toile naine rouge, et dans la zone habitable de son \u00e9toile. Ce qui signifie que de l\u2019eau liquide pourrait se trouver \u00e0 sa surface. La d\u00e9couverte est aussi particuli\u00e8rement int\u00e9ressante car Wolf 1069 b a une masse et une taille \u00e9quivalentes \u00e0 celles de la Terre.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Lorsque nous avons analys\u00e9 les donn\u00e9es de l\u2019\u00e9toile Wolf 1069, nous avons d\u00e9couvert un signal clair et de faible amplitude de ce qui semble \u00eatre une plan\u00e8te de masse \u00e9quivalente \u00e0 celle de la Terre \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Diana Kossakowski, cheffe d\u2019\u00e9quipe et astronome \u00e0 l\u2019Institut Max Planck, en Allemagne.<\/p>\n<p>Pour la trouver, les chercheurs ont utilis\u00e9 les donn\u00e9es du projet Calar Alto high-Resolution search for M dwarfs with Exoearths with Near-infrared and optical Echelle Spectrographs, ou plus simplement Carmenes. Recueillies par l&rsquo;observatoire de Calar Alto en Espagne, les donn\u00e9es ont mis en lumi\u00e8re la pr\u00e9sence d&rsquo;une exoplan\u00e8te autour de l&rsquo;\u00e9toile Wolf 1069, d\u00e9nich\u00e9e gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la m\u00e9thode des vitesses radiales. \u00ab Lorsque nous avons analys\u00e9 les donn\u00e9es de l&rsquo;\u00e9toile Wolf 1069, nous avons d\u00e9couvert un signal clair et de faible amplitude de ce qui semble \u00eatre une plan\u00e8te d&rsquo;environ la masse terrestre, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 dans un communiqu\u00e9 du MPIA Diana Kossakowski, premi\u00e8re auteure de l&rsquo;\u00e9tude. Il orbite autour de l&rsquo;\u00e9toile en 15,6 jours \u00e0 une distance \u00e9quivalente \u00e0 un quinzi\u00e8me de la s\u00e9paration entre la Terre et le Soleil \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>En regardant plus en d\u00e9tail les donn\u00e9es sur Wolf 1069b, les chercheurs ont r\u00e9alis\u00e9 qu&rsquo;elle \u00e9tait verrouill\u00e9e par les effets de mar\u00e9e ! Tout comme la Lune, elle effectue dans le m\u00eame temps un tour sur elle-m\u00eame et un tour autour de son \u00e9toile-m\u00e8re, si bien qu&rsquo;elle lui montre toujours la m\u00eame face ! C&rsquo;est ce que l&rsquo;on appelle la rotation synchrone. Voire plus, selon l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re qu&rsquo;abrite la plan\u00e8te. Car se situer dans la zone habitable pour une plan\u00e8te ne signifie pas \u00eatre habitable, mais implique une possibilit\u00e9 de contenir de l&rsquo;eau liquide. Mais encore faut-il qu&rsquo;une atmosph\u00e8re suffisamment \u00e9paisse emp\u00eache les rayons cosmiques venant de l&rsquo;\u00e9toile ou du milieu interstellaire de d\u00e9truire des biomol\u00e9cules. Celle-ci peut \u00eatre maintenue dans le cas d&rsquo;un champ magn\u00e9tique suffisamment puissant provenant de l&rsquo;effet dynamo, comme pour notre Plan\u00e8te. Cependant, dans le cas o\u00f9 ce champ magn\u00e9tique dispara\u00eet, l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re aussi. Les naines rouges, en plus d&rsquo;\u00eatre les \u00e9toiles les plus nombreuses dans l&rsquo;Univers, d\u00e9gagent en effet bien moins d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie et de chaleur. \u00ab En cons\u00e9quence, la zone dite habitable est d\u00e9plac\u00e9e vers l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur \u00bb, a continu\u00e9 D.Kossakowski. La plan\u00e8te r\u00e9cemment d\u00e9couverte ne re\u00e7oit qu&rsquo;environ 65 % de la puissance rayonnante incidente de ce que nous recevons sur Terre, renfor\u00e7ant l&rsquo;espoir d&rsquo;une atmosph\u00e8re non d\u00e9truite par des vents stellaires !
