L&rsquo;existence connue de ces \u00e9l\u00e9ments, \u00e0 l&rsquo;exception du phosphore, sur Encelade, combin\u00e9e \u00e0 un oc\u00e9an liquide et \u00e0 un noyau chaud, avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 fait de cette lune l&rsquo;un des endroits les plus propices \u00e0 la vie.<\/p>\n<p>Les scientifiques travaillant avec des donn\u00e9es provenant de sondes envoy\u00e9es dans l&rsquo;espace ont d\u00e9couvert quelque chose d&rsquo;encore plus intriguant : des compos\u00e9s organiques lourds contenant des centaines d&rsquo;atomes dispos\u00e9s en anneaux et en cha\u00eenes. Ce sont les mol\u00e9cules organiques les plus complexes d\u00e9couvertes jusqu&rsquo;ici sur Encelade. Explosant \u00e0 travers les fissures de la r\u00e9gion polaire sud, les jets contiennent de l&rsquo;eau de mer provenant d&rsquo;un oc\u00e9an global pris au pi\u00e8ge sous la carapace glac\u00e9e de la lune de Saturne.
