James O&rsquo;Donoghue, de l&rsquo;Agence japonaise d&rsquo;exploration a\u00e9rospatiale (JAXA), a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 ces r\u00e9sultats cette semaine au Congr\u00e8s scientifique Europlanet (EPSC) 2022 \u00e0 Grenade.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re de Jupiter, c\u00e9l\u00e8bre pour ses tourbillons multicolores caract\u00e9ristiques, est \u00e9galement \u00e9tonnamment chaude : en fait, elle est plus chaude de plusieurs centaines de degr\u00e9s que ce que les mod\u00e8les pr\u00e9voient. En raison de sa distance orbitale de plusieurs millions de kilom\u00e8tres du soleil, la plan\u00e8te g\u00e9ante re\u00e7oit moins de 4 % de la quantit\u00e9 de lumi\u00e8re solaire par rapport \u00e0 la Terre, et sa haute atmosph\u00e8re devrait th\u00e9oriquement \u00eatre glaciale, \u00e0 -70 degr\u00e9s Celsius. Au lieu de cela, le sommet de ses nuages est mesur\u00e9 partout \u00e0 plus de 400 degr\u00e9s Celsius.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, nous avons produit &#8211; et pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 \u00e0 EPSC2021 &#8211; les premi\u00e8res cartes de la haute atmosph\u00e8re de Jupiter capables d&rsquo;identifier les sources de chaleur dominantes\u00a0\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le Dr O&rsquo;Donoghue. \u00ab\u00a0Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ces cartes, nous avons d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que les aurores de Jupiter \u00e9taient un m\u00e9canisme possible pouvant expliquer ces temp\u00e9ratures.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Tout comme la Terre, Jupiter conna\u00eet des aurores autour de ses p\u00f4les comme un effet du vent solaire. Cependant, alors que les aurores terrestres sont transitoires et ne se produisent que lorsque l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 solaire est intense, les aurores de Jupiter sont permanentes et d&rsquo;intensit\u00e9 variable. Les puissantes aurores peuvent chauffer la r\u00e9gion autour des p\u00f4les \u00e0 plus de 700 degr\u00e9s Celsius, et les vents globaux peuvent redistribuer la chaleur \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle mondiale autour de Jupiter.<\/p><div class=\"1665f18d14f35dd9e7566e1a8ac9a3e9\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2860849627502538\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3019501113\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>En examinant plus en profondeur leurs donn\u00e9es, M. O&rsquo;Donoghue et son \u00e9quipe ont d\u00e9couvert la spectaculaire \u00ab\u00a0vague de chaleur\u00a0\u00bb juste en dessous de l&rsquo;aurore bor\u00e9ale, et ont constat\u00e9 qu&rsquo;elle se d\u00e9pla\u00e7ait vers l&rsquo;\u00e9quateur \u00e0 une vitesse de plusieurs milliers de kilom\u00e8tres par heure.<\/p>\n<p>La vague de chaleur a probablement \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9clench\u00e9e par une impulsion de plasma de vent solaire renforc\u00e9 impactant le champ magn\u00e9tique de Jupiter, ce qui a stimul\u00e9 le chauffage auroral et forc\u00e9 les gaz chauds \u00e0 se dilater et \u00e0 se r\u00e9pandre vers l&rsquo;\u00e9quateur.<\/p>\n<p>Alors que les aurores bor\u00e9ales fournissent continuellement de la chaleur au reste de la plan\u00e8te, ces \u00ab\u00a0\u00e9v\u00e9nements\u00a0\u00bb de vague de chaleur repr\u00e9sentent une source d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie suppl\u00e9mentaire importante\u00a0\u00bb, a ajout\u00e9 le Dr O&rsquo;Donoghue.
