Mesurant environ 325 m\u00e8tres de diam\u00e8tre1 et d&rsquo;une masse d&rsquo;environ 40 \u00e0 50 millions de tonnes, il suit une orbite proche de celle de la Terre qu&rsquo;il croise deux fois \u00e0 chacune de ses r\u00e9volutions.<\/p>\n<p>Les premi\u00e8res observations de l&rsquo;ast\u00e9ro\u00efde tendaient \u00e0 donner une probabilit\u00e9 non n\u00e9gligeable d&rsquo;une collision avec la Terre le vendredi 13 avril 2029.<\/p>\n<p>Avant les derni\u00e8res mesures radar d&rsquo;Apophis, son orbite \u00e9tait connue suffisamment pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment pour pr\u00e9dire une s\u00e9rie de passages rapproch\u00e9s sans risque au cours des prochaines d\u00e9cennies. Le prochain et le plus proche aura lieu le vendredi 13 avril 2029, lorsque Apophis passera \u00e0 38.000 kilom\u00e8tres du centre de la Terre (32.000 kilom\u00e8tres de sa surface) et sera visible \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u0153il nu. Lors de ses passages \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 de la terre sa vitesse relative est d&rsquo;environ 5 km\/s soit 18 000 km\/h.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;ast\u00e9ro\u00efde est ainsi pass\u00e9 dans la nuit du 9 au 10 janvier 2013 \u00e0 14,4 millions de kilom\u00e8tres de la Terre16,3, une distance quarante fois plus importante que celle qui nous s\u00e9pare de la Lune et qui ne cause absolument aucun danger.<\/p>\n<p>En octobre 2020, les chercheurs de l&rsquo;universit\u00e9 d&rsquo;Hawa\u00ef ont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 qu&rsquo;Apophis d\u00e9viait de son orbite de 170 m\u00e8tres par an sous l&rsquo;effet Yarkovsky, selon lequel un corps c\u00e9leste re\u00e7oit une faible impulsion en raison du rayonnement thermique de la surface qui se r\u00e9chauffe pendant la journ\u00e9e et se refroidit la nuit, rendant possible une collision avec la Terre.<\/p><div class=\"1665f18d14f35dd9e7566e1a8ac9a3e9\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2860849627502538\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3019501113\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>\u00c0 l&rsquo;occasion de la d\u00e9couverte de l&rsquo;ast\u00e9ro\u00efde, des chercheurs ont propos\u00e9 des moyens de le d\u00e9vier de sa trajectoire s&rsquo;il s&rsquo;av\u00e9rait qu&rsquo;il risquait bien de rencontrer la Terre. On a par exemple sugg\u00e9r\u00e9 l\u2019envoi, en 2027, d\u2019un vaisseau d\u2019environ une tonne et de la taille d\u2019un module lunaire \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 d\u2019Apophis. Connaissant ses param\u00e8tres physiques, les astronomes estiment qu&rsquo;une collision avec la Terre d\u00e9gagerait une \u00e9nergie pouvant atteindre l&rsquo;\u00e9quivalent de 750 m\u00e9gatonnes (750 millions de tonnes) de TNT, soit 13 fois plus que la Tsar Bomba, la bombe nucl\u00e9aire la plus puissante test\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>S&rsquo;il tombait au large de la Californie par exemple, les simulations pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es sur le site de la Planetary Society indiquent que le tsunami formerait une vague de 170 m de hauteur qui d\u00e9ferlerait \u00e0 100 km\/h sur les m\u00e9gapoles, la vague engloutissant les habitations.<\/p>\n<p>S&rsquo;il percutait le sol sans se d\u00e9sagr\u00e9ger, dans le pire des cas (impact d&rsquo;une sid\u00e9rite sur une m\u00e9galopole) il provoquerait des d\u00e9g\u00e2ts importants dans un rayon qui pourrait d\u00e9passer plusieurs centaines de kilom\u00e8tres et tuer plusieurs millions d&rsquo;habitants. En raison de la poussi\u00e8re lib\u00e9r\u00e9e dans l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re, il pourrait en r\u00e9sulter un hiver d&rsquo;impact (du moins dans l&rsquo;h\u00e9misph\u00e8re touch\u00e9) qui pourrait durer plusieurs mois.<\/p>\n<p>Toutefois, tous ces sc\u00e9narios catastrophes et notamment leur amplitude ne reposent que sur des sp\u00e9culations concernant le lieu d&rsquo;un \u00e9ventuel crash, et des calculs sur la force de l&rsquo;impact au vu des donn\u00e9es concernant la nature de l\u2019ast\u00e9ro\u00efde.<\/p>\n<p>Il est important de souligner que la surface de la Terre est constitu\u00e9e \u00e0 70 % de mers.
