La zone en question fait \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s la taille des Pays-Bas.<\/p>\n<p>Un appareil russe lanc\u00e9 en 2016 dans le cadre d&rsquo;une mission conjointe entre l&rsquo;Agence spatiale europ\u00e9enne (ESA) et l\u2019Agence spatiale russe (Roscosmos) aurait d\u00e9tect\u00e9 de l&rsquo;eau sous la surface de Valles Marineris, un syst\u00e8me de canyons martien qui est 10 fois plus long, cinq fois plus profond et 20 fois plus large que le Grand Canyon aux \u00c9tats-Unis, annoncent l\u2019ESA et l\u2019Institut russe de recherche spatiale (IKI).<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;eau a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9tect\u00e9e par le t\u00e9lescope \u00e0 neutrons russe FREND qui \u00e9quipe l&rsquo;orbiteur Trace Gas Orbiter de la mission russo-europ\u00e9enne ExoMars-2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0FREND a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 une zone pr\u00e9sentant une quantit\u00e9 inhabituelle d&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne dans le colossal syst\u00e8me de canyons Valles Marineris: en supposant que l&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne que nous voyons est li\u00e9 \u00e0 des mol\u00e9cules d&rsquo;eau, jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 40% du mat\u00e9riau proche de la surface dans cette r\u00e9gion semble \u00eatre de l&rsquo;eau\u00a0\u00bb, a indiqu\u00e9 Igor Mitrofanov, coauteur de la recherche, cit\u00e9 par ESA.<\/p>\n<p>La zone riche en eau fait \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s la taille des Pays-Bas et se superpose aux vall\u00e9es profondes de Candor, une r\u00e9gion qui fait partie du syst\u00e8me de canyons consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme prometteur dans la chasse \u00e0 l&rsquo;eau sur Mars.<\/p>\n<p>FREND en mission conjointe<\/p><div class=\"1665f18d14f35dd9e7566e1a8ac9a3e9\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2860849627502538\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3019501113\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>En orbite martienne, FREND mesure les flux de neutrons \u00e0 la surface de la plan\u00e8te, r\u00e9sultant de son bombardement par les rayons cosmiques. Tandis que le spectre d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie des neutrons d\u00e9pend de la concentration d&rsquo;atomes d&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne dans le sol, ses mesures permettent d&rsquo;estimer assez pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment la concentration d&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne dans la couche jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 une profondeur d&rsquo;environ un m\u00e8tre.<br \/>\nLa principale particularit\u00e9 du t\u00e9lescope FREND est sa capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 cartographier Mars \u00e0 haute r\u00e9solution spatiale, de plusieurs dizaines de kilom\u00e8tres. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 cela, les scientifiques russes ont pu pour la premi\u00e8re fois estimer la teneur en hydrog\u00e8ne des endroits relativement petits \u00e0 la surface de la plan\u00e8te rouge.<\/p>\n<p>Le canyon martien<\/p>\n<p>La plupart de l&rsquo;eau sur Mars est situ\u00e9e dans les r\u00e9gions polaires de la plan\u00e8te et reste gel\u00e9e. Valles Marineris se trouve au sud de l&rsquo;\u00e9quateur de la plan\u00e8te, o\u00f9 les temp\u00e9ratures ne sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement pas assez froides pour que la glace d&rsquo;eau subsiste.<\/p>\n<p>Ce canyon aurait pu \u00eatre de temps en temps rempli d&rsquo;eau au cours de l&rsquo;\u00e9volution plan\u00e9taire, pr\u00e9cise l\u2019Institut russe de recherche spatiale dans un communiqu\u00e9.<br \/>\nAujourd&rsquo;hui, les glissements de terrain qui ont lieu sur ses pentes, ainsi que la pr\u00e9sence des canaux, ne t\u00e9moignent qu&rsquo;indirectement des processus hydrologiques en cours.
