La situation \u00e0 Tchernobyl pr\u00e9occupe la communaut\u00e9 scientifique, 35 ans apr\u00e8s la catastrophe, et notamment Neil Hyatt, chimiste sp\u00e9cialiste des mat\u00e9riaux nucl\u00e9aires \u00e0 l&rsquo;universit\u00e9 de Sheffield. Dans la revue Science, il alerte, avec d&rsquo;autres scientifiques, sur une activit\u00e9 anormale dans les d\u00e9bris de la centrale.<\/p>\n<p>Les r\u00e9actions de fission semblent s&rsquo;acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer sous les d\u00e9combres du r\u00e9acteur num\u00e9ro 4, celui qui a explos\u00e9 le 26 avril 1986 au cours d&rsquo;un test de s\u00fbret\u00e9. Les scientifiques ukrainiens y constatent une augmentation lente mais ininterrompue de l&rsquo;\u00e9mission de neutrons. \u00ab\u00a0Aujourd&rsquo;hui, les scientifiques ukrainiens s&rsquo;efforcent de d\u00e9terminer si les r\u00e9actions s&rsquo;arr\u00eateront d&rsquo;elles-m\u00eames ou si des interventions extraordinaires seront n\u00e9cessaires pour \u00e9viter un autre accident\u00a0\u00bb, pr\u00e9cise la revue scientifique.<\/p>\n<p>Il \u00e9tait envisag\u00e9 d\u00e8s 2015, selon l\u2019Institut pour les probl\u00e8mes de s\u00fbret\u00e9 des centrales nucl\u00e9aires de l\u2019Acad\u00e9mie nationale des sciences d\u2019Ukraine. La nouvelle arche de confinement termin\u00e9e en 2019 a rendu l\u2019ancien sarcophage plus \u00e9tanche. Les infiltrations d\u2019eau, qui posaient probl\u00e8me ailleurs dans la centrale, manqueraient au corium. Il s\u2019ass\u00e8che et monte en temp\u00e9rature. En fusion, il peut percer le b\u00e9ton et engendrer une explosion.<\/p>\n<p>Un risque d&rsquo;accident<br \/>\nConcr\u00e8tement, si les r\u00e9actions de fission incontr\u00f4l\u00e9es ne sont aucunement in\u00e9dites, elles font planer la menace d&rsquo;un nouvel incident. Le spectre de la fission dite criticit\u00e9, dans les ruines nucl\u00e9aires, a longtemps hant\u00e9 Tchernobyl, souligne la revue. \u00ab\u00a0Il reste beaucoup d&rsquo;incertitudes, mais nous ne pouvons pas \u00e9carter la possibilit\u00e9 d&rsquo;un accident\u00a0\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Maxim Saveliev, de l&rsquo;Institut pour les probl\u00e8mes de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 dans les centrales nucl\u00e9aires de l&rsquo;Acad\u00e9mie des sciences ukrainienne.<\/p><div class=\"1665f18d14f35dd9e7566e1a8ac9a3e9\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2860849627502538\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3019501113\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>La crainte d\u00e9sormais est que \u00ab\u00a0la r\u00e9action de fission augmente de fa\u00e7on exponentielle\u00a0\u00bb, d\u00e9taillent les scientifiques et qu\u2019elle ne m\u00e8ne \u00e0 une \u00e9mission incontr\u00f4l\u00e9e d\u2019\u00e9nergie nucl\u00e9aire. Ce sarcophage n&rsquo;\u00e9tant pas \u00e9tanche, les fortes pluies font parfois grimper en fl\u00e8che le nombre de neutrons, augmentant ainsi leurs chances de frapper et de fendre les noyaux d&rsquo;uranium. Une nouvelle explosion pourrait toutefois \u00eatre contenue et ne m\u00e8nerait pas \u00e0 une r\u00e9p\u00e9tition de celle de 1986, mais elle pourrait contaminer l\u2019arche actuelle, fragilisant le site pour les d\u00e9cennies \u00e0 venir.<\/p>\n<p>Faut-il s\u2019alarmer ?<br \/>\nLa situation est pr\u00e9occupante, mais pas alarmante\u200b, selon la plupart des observateurs. Le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne est lent\u200b, indique le chercheur ukrainien Maxim Saveliev.<br \/>\nCela laisse du temps pour trouver des solutions techniques afin de r\u00e9duire la menace, comme l\u2019injection de bore, une substance chimique qui absorbe les neutrons. Encore faut-il r\u00e9ussir \u00e0 atteindre cette salle, jusqu\u2019ici inaccessible.
