Mais notre \u00e9tude fournit des preuves statistiques d&rsquo;un cycle commun, ce qui sugg\u00e8re que ces \u00e9v\u00e9nements g\u00e9ologiques sont corr\u00e9l\u00e9s et non al\u00e9atoires\u00a0\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Michael Rampino, g\u00e9ologue et professeur au d\u00e9partement de biologie de l&rsquo;universit\u00e9 de New York, ainsi que l&rsquo;auteur principal de l&rsquo;\u00e9tude.<\/p>\n<p>Au cours des cinq derni\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies, les chercheurs ont propos\u00e9 des cycles d&rsquo;\u00e9v\u00e9nements g\u00e9ologiques majeurs &#8211; dont l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 volcanique et les extinctions massives sur terre et dans la mer &#8211; allant de 26 \u00e0 36 millions d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es environ. Ces \u00e9v\u00e9nements comprennent des extinctions marines et terrestres, des d\u00e9versements volcaniques majeurs de lave appel\u00e9s \u00e9ruptions basaltiques, des \u00e9v\u00e9nements au cours desquels les oc\u00e9ans ont \u00e9t\u00e9 appauvris en oxyg\u00e8ne, des fluctuations du niveau de la mer et des changements ou r\u00e9organisations des plaques tectoniques de la Terre.<\/p>\n<p>Ils ont constat\u00e9 que ces \u00e9v\u00e9nements g\u00e9ologiques mondiaux sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement regroup\u00e9s \u00e0 10 moments diff\u00e9rents au cours des 260 millions d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es, regroup\u00e9s en pics ou en impulsions espac\u00e9s d&rsquo;environ 27,5 millions d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es. Le groupe d&rsquo;\u00e9v\u00e9nements g\u00e9ologiques le plus r\u00e9cent s&rsquo;est produit il y a environ 7 millions d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es, ce qui sugg\u00e8re que la prochaine impulsion d&rsquo;activit\u00e9 g\u00e9ologique majeure se produira dans plus de 20 millions d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Les chercheurs supposent que ces impulsions peuvent \u00eatre fonction des cycles d&rsquo;activit\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur de la Terre &#8211; des processus g\u00e9ophysiques li\u00e9s \u00e0 la dynamique de la tectonique des plaques et du climat.
