Ce sont quelques-uns des effets potentiels que pourrait avoir une&nbsp;explosion d&rsquo;\u00e9toile en supernova&nbsp;qui se produirait dans le voisinage \u2014 cosmiquement parlant \u2014 de notre Terre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus modestement, ce type d\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement pourrait, par le pass\u00e9, avoir laiss\u00e9 des traces\u2026 dans les&nbsp;cernes de nos arbres. Pour le v\u00e9rifier, des&nbsp;scientifiques de l\u2019universit\u00e9 du Colorado&nbsp;\u00e0 Boulder (\u00c9tats-Unis) se sont lanc\u00e9s \u00e0 la recherche de quelques-unes de ces empreintes d\u2019explosions d\u2019\u00e9toiles en supernova. Parce que rappelons que cet isotope radioactif du carbone se forme justement lorsque des rayons cosmiques bombardent l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re de la Terre. De mani\u00e8re quasi constante, donc. Et parce que les arbres, en grandissant, pi\u00e8gent une partie de ce carbone 14 de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re qu\u2019ils pi\u00e8gent le carbone tout court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ainsi, les chercheurs ont travaill\u00e9 sur une liste de supernovae apparues \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 de notre Plan\u00e8te au cours des 40.000 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Ils ont compar\u00e9 les dates d&rsquo;apparition aux cernes des arbres. Et les huit supernovae les plus proches semblent bien pouvoir \u00eatre associ\u00e9es \u00e0 des pics jusqu&rsquo;alors inexpliqu\u00e9s dans les taux de carbone 14.
