Le changement se propage vers le bas \u00e0 une vitesse de 1 km par mois mais d\u00e9cro\u00eet quand il atteint 23 km d&rsquo;altitude. Cette propagation est plus irr\u00e9guli\u00e8re avec les vents d&rsquo;est et l&rsquo;amplitude de ce changement est le double de celle des vents d&rsquo;ouest.<\/p>\n<p>La QBO connait actuellement une nouvelle anomalie in\u00e9dite, d\u00e9j\u00e0 observ\u00e9e en 2015. En 2015, des scientifiques de l&rsquo;Institut Max Planck ont publi\u00e9 un article sur une anomalie de grande ampleur dans ce cycle, jamais observ\u00e9e depuis que les mesures existent soit environ 60 ans. R\u00e9cemment, les ondes de gravit\u00e9 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 reconnues comme un des facteurs majeurs de la QBO. Les donn\u00e9es de la <a href=\"https:\/\/psl.noaa.gov\/data\/correlation\/qbo.data\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">QBO peuvent \u00eatre trouv\u00e9es ici<\/a>. Apr\u00e8s \u00eatre pass\u00e9es en n\u00e9gatif debut janvier 2020, elle semble vouloir repasser en positif.<\/p>\n<p>En m\u00e9t\u00e9orologie, on d\u00e9signe par onde de gravit\u00e9 les variations de pression atmosph\u00e9rique concentriques cr\u00e9\u00e9es par la chute d&rsquo;une masse d&rsquo;air (par exemple en raison du relief du terrain) et qui subit la pouss\u00e9e d&rsquo;Archim\u00e8de car elle a une densit\u00e9 diff\u00e9rente de l&rsquo;environnement. Ces ondes sont l&rsquo;\u00e9quivalent des vagues dans un milieu en trois dimensions. Elles peuvent mener \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation de bandes nuageuses parall\u00e8les, correspondant aux minima et maxima de pression (\u00ab\u00a0cr\u00eates\u00a0\u00bb de l&rsquo;onde), par exemple des Cirrus vertebratus.<\/p>\n<p>Le changement climatique n&rsquo;est peut-\u00eatre pas la source premi\u00e8re de cette anomalie, mais il pourrait avoir exacerb\u00e9 certaines chaines de r\u00e9actions \/><\/p>\n<p>Hypoth\u00e8ses explicatives<\/p>\n<p>Le coupable pourrait \u00eatre l&rsquo;El Ni\u00f1o de l&rsquo;hiver 2015, pour deux raisons : il a apport\u00e9 des eaux anormalement chaudes \u00e0 l&rsquo;est du Pacifique \u00e9quatorial ; il a aussi modifi\u00e9 les ondes atmosph\u00e9riques et des conditions m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques bien au-del\u00e0 des tropiques. 2014 et 2015 ont encore \u00e9t\u00e9 des ann\u00e9es records en termes de chaleur.<\/p>\n<p>Une autre possibilit\u00e9, peut-\u00eatre en lien avec la pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente, <strong>serait qu&rsquo;une autre anomalie serait en cause, voire un facteur d\u00e9clenchant : un \u00ab \u00a0\u00bb blob \u00a0\u00bb d&rsquo;eau chaude \u00bb<\/strong> du nord de l&rsquo;oc\u00e9an Pacifique constat\u00e9 depuis 2013 ait contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 un r\u00e9chauffement stratosph\u00e9rique anormal (hivers 2013-2014 et 2015-2016) dans les hautes latitudes de l&rsquo;h\u00e9misph\u00e8re Nord12.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;oc\u00e9an Pacifique joue un r\u00f4le majeur sur la QBO.<\/p>\n<p>Mais que s&rsquo;est il pass\u00e9 cette ann\u00e9e pour que la QBO puisse en \u00eatre affect\u00e9e ? Nous n&rsquo;avions pas de El Nino !<\/p>\n<p>Fin d\u00e9cembre, on pouvait constater cette forte anomalie positive dans le Pacifique Sud n\u00e9e des incendies en Australie :<br \/>\n<img \/><\/p>\n<p>Ces blobs ont des cons\u00e9quences sur la faune :<\/p>\n<p>Des scientifiques ont r\u00e9cemment fait \u00e9tat d\u2019une autre catastrophe biologique d\u00e9vastatrice, caus\u00e9e par une \u00e9tendue d\u2019eau anormalement chaude dans l\u2019oc\u00e9an Pacifique, connue sous le nom de \u201d Blob \u201c.<\/p>\n<p>Cette concentration de chaleur marine s\u2019est maintenue dans le nord-est du Pacifique entre 2013 et 2016, et les chercheurs pensent maintenant qu\u2019elle est en grande partie responsable de la mort de pr\u00e8s d\u2019un million de guillemots de Tro\u00efl (Uria aalge), entre autres animaux sauvages. Alors qu&rsquo;en est il exactement ?<\/p>\n<p>Origine du Blob : Le blob a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9tect\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois \u00e0 l&rsquo;automne 2013 et au d\u00e9but de 2014 par Nicholas Bond de l&rsquo;Institut mixte pour l&rsquo;\u00e9tude de l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re et de l&rsquo;oc\u00e9an de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Washington, et ses coll\u00e8gues, lorsqu&rsquo;un grand plan circulaire d&rsquo;eau de mer n&rsquo;a pas refroidi comme pr\u00e9vu et est rest\u00e9 beaucoup plus chaud que les temp\u00e9ratures normales moyennes pour cet endroit et cette saison.<\/p>\n<p>Causes du Blob : La cause imm\u00e9diate du ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne a \u00e9t\u00e9 les taux de perte de chaleur de la mer \u00e0 l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re inf\u00e9rieurs \u00e0 la normale, aggrav\u00e9s par une circulation de l&rsquo;eau inf\u00e9rieure \u00e0 la normale, ce qui a entra\u00een\u00e9 une couche d&rsquo;eau statique sup\u00e9rieure. Ces deux \u00e9l\u00e9ments sont attribu\u00e9s \u00e0 une r\u00e9gion de haute pression statique dans l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re, appel\u00e9e la cr\u00eate ridiculement r\u00e9siliente , qui existe depuis le printemps 2014. Le manque de mouvement d&rsquo;air a un impact sur les courants forc\u00e9s par le vent et l&rsquo;agitation de la surface g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9e par le vent, des eaux. Ces facteurs ont \u00e0 leur tour influenc\u00e9 la m\u00e9t\u00e9o dans le nord-ouest du Pacifique \u00e0 partir de l&rsquo;hiver 2013-2014 et peuvent avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 associ\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9 inhabituellement chaud connu dans le nord-ouest du Pacifique continental en 2014.<\/p>\n<p>La raison de ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne n&rsquo;est pas claire. Certains experts consid\u00e8rent que le blob d&rsquo;eau chaude pr\u00e9sage un changement cyclique avec les eaux de surface de l&rsquo;oc\u00e9an Pacifique \u00e0 mi-latitude passant d&rsquo;une phase froide \u00e0 une phase chaude dans un cycle connu sous le nom d&rsquo;oscillation d\u00e9cennale du Pacifique (PDO).<\/p>\n<p>Ce changement mal compris se produit \u00e0 des intervalles irr\u00e9guliers d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es ou de d\u00e9cennies. Pendant une phase chaude, le Pacifique occidental devient plus frais et une partie de l&rsquo;oc\u00e9an oriental se r\u00e9chauffe; pendant la phase froide, ces changements s&rsquo;inversent. Les scientifiques croient qu&rsquo;une phase froide a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1990 et l&rsquo;arriv\u00e9e du Blob pourrait \u00eatre le d\u00e9but de la prochaine phase chaude.
