Dans une nouvelle \u00e9tude publi\u00e9e dans la revue m\u00e9dicale Science Translational Medicine, des chercheurs de l\u2019universit\u00e9 d\u2019Arkansas ont mis au point un laser r\u00e9volutionnaire. Il est capable de d\u00e9tecter des cellules canc\u00e9reuses dans un premier temps, et de les neutraliser en les d\u00e9truisant dans un deuxi\u00e8me temps.<\/p>\n<p>La premi\u00e8re des deux utilisations majeures de ce nouveau rayon laser est de l\u2019ordre de l\u2019identification. Premi\u00e8rement, les chercheurs ont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 dans leur \u00e9tude publi\u00e9e que le syst\u00e8me a \u00e9t\u00e9 capable de d\u00e9tecter avec pr\u00e9cision les cellules canc\u00e9reuses chez 27 des 28 personnes atteintes de cancer qui lui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Avec sa sensibilit\u00e9 estim\u00e9e \u00e0 environ 1 000 fois sup\u00e9rieure aux technologies actuelles, c\u2019est un v\u00e9ritable exploit et un immense \u00e9lan d\u2019espoir dans l\u2019identification des cellules canc\u00e9reuses, avant leur formation d\u00e9finitive.<\/p>\n<p>La machine est extr\u00eamement performante, en \u00e9tant capable de tuer un pourcentage \u00e9lev\u00e9 de cellules responsables de la propagation d\u2019un cancer. Les chercheurs rapportent ainsi que sur les premiers tests, 96 % des cellules tumorales ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9truites chez un patient. De plus, cela s\u2019effectue en temps r\u00e9el, \u00e0 travers la circulation du sang dans les veines des personnes soumises au laser.<\/p>\n<p>Un des \u00e9l\u00e9ments les plus int\u00e9ressants de ce laser, hormis le fait qu\u2019il puisse s\u2019occuper efficacement de l\u2019identification et de la neutralisation des cellules canc\u00e9reuses, c\u2019est son mode d\u2019action. Rappelons que la propagation du cancer, passant par les m\u00e9tastases, ces \u201ccancers secondaires\u201d qui migrent, repr\u00e9sente la principale cause de d\u00e9c\u00e8s li\u00e9s au cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Le fait d\u2019\u00eatre en mesure de pouvoir tuer ces cellules tumorales en circulation dans le sang permet d\u2019entrevoir la possibilit\u00e9 de sauver des millions de vies \u00e0 terme. Sans pour autant aller jusqu\u2019\u00e0 leur \u00e9radication, le fait de pouvoir les identifier bien plus efficacement et pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019heure actuelle pourra aider les m\u00e9decins \u00e0 effectuer de meilleurs diagnostics.
