Les observations de l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 sismique autour de la fosse des Mariannes ont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que les plaques tectoniques en subduction entra\u00eenent de plus en plus d&rsquo;eau dans la Terre, ce qui pourrait changer notre compr\u00e9hension du cycle global de l&rsquo;eau.<\/p>\n<div data-index=\"1\" data-gptcount=\"1\">\n<div class=\"ArticleBody__html\" data-wordcount=\"69\">\n<p><span>La fosse des Mariannes est surtout connue pour \u00eatre la plus profonde de tous les oc\u00e9ans, plongeant jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e8s de 11 000 m \u00e0 son point le plus bas.&nbsp;En effet, la fosse est le lieu de rencontre de deux plaques tectoniques &#8211; la minuscule plaque Mariana et la grande plaque Pacifique.&nbsp;Plus vieille et plus dense, cette derni\u00e8re glisse sous l\u2019ancienne, ce qui permet \u00e0 de grandes quantit\u00e9s d\u2019eau de mer de s\u2019\u00e9couler \u00e0 travers les fissures dans la cro\u00fbte terrestre et le Notre \u00e9tude a essay\u00e9 de la limiter.
