Cette couche de terre argileuse, ou smectite, a en effet occasionn\u00e9 un mouvement tr\u00e8s rapide des plaques qui ont gliss\u00e9 l&rsquo;une sur l&rsquo;autre.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">   <br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Ce que les chercheurs entendent par \u00ab\u00a0fine\u00a0\u00bb est une \u00e9paisseur comprise entre un et cinq m\u00e8tres, \u00e0 comparer avec des couches d&rsquo;environ 40 m\u00e8tres observ\u00e9es aux fronti\u00e8res d&rsquo;autres plaques en mouvement.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Le tremblement de terre de magnitude 9 et le tsunami qui s&rsquo;ensuivit le 11 mars 2011 avaient fait plus de 18.000 morts dans le nord-est du Japon et provoqu\u00e9 la catastrophe nucl\u00e9aire de Fukushima, la pire depuis celle de Tchernobyl (Ukraine) en 1986.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Kotaro Ujiie, professeur \u00e0 l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Tsukuba \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine de ces constats, participe a un projet scientifique lanc\u00e9 imm\u00e9diatement apr\u00e8s ce triple d\u00e9sastre. Il a consist\u00e9 \u00e0 percer les profondeurs sous-marines \u00e0 partir d&rsquo;un bateau de forage, jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 -7000 m\u00e8tres \u00e0 partir du fond.
