Le nom de ce type de volcan vient de Pline le jeune, premier \u00e9crivain et qui ait d\u00e9crit une \u00e9ruption, celle du V\u00e9suve, qui enseveli Pomp\u00e9i en 79 apr. J.-C.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">TYPE PELEEN<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Les volcans p\u00e9l\u00e9ens (du nom de la montagne Pel\u00e9e) lib\u00e8rent une lave tr\u00e8s visqueuse de mani\u00e8re extr\u00eamement violente. Les \u00e9ruptions s&rsquo;accompagnent de nu\u00e9es ardentes. Les types p\u00e9l\u00e9en et plinien sont les plus dangereux : ils \u00e9mettent des cendres, des d\u00e9bris et des gaz (nu\u00e9es ardentes, panaches) et des bombes volcaniques (projections de morceaux de lave incandescence).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">La morphologie de l&rsquo;appareil volcanique (taille et pentes du c\u00f4ne, du crat\u00e8re) r\u00e9sulte de l&rsquo;accumulation de mat\u00e9riaux \u00e9mis lors des \u00e9ruptions, et d\u00e9pend notamment des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s de la lave, et des conditions internes de pression, qui peuvent du reste \u00e9voluer au cours de l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 du volcan. De faibles variations de la composition de la lave peuvent se traduire par des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rentes, notamment pour la viscosit\u00e9. Les \u00e9ruptions volcaniques peuvent \u00eatre explosives, lorsque la pression exerc\u00e9e par les gaz \u00e9jecte des fragments de magma plus ou moins solidifi\u00e9 avec des cendres et des scories.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">L&rsquo;activit\u00e9 volcanique est extr\u00eamement difficile \u00e0 pr\u00e9voir; leur \u00e9tude ne dispose du reste que de peu de donn\u00e9es \u00e0 cause de la disproportion entre la dur\u00e9e moyenne qui s\u00e9pare deux \u00e9ruptions et la dur\u00e9e de vie humaine. Les recherches portent notamment sur l&rsquo;\u00e9valuation des r\u00e9serves de magma retenues en profondeur (\u00e0 10 km sous la surface environ) et qui s&rsquo;\u00e9coulent par divers fissures, filons, conduits. Les cons\u00e9quences d&rsquo;une explosion sont li\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;importance des r\u00e9servoirs de magma. Des \u00e9missions de gaz et d&rsquo;autres signes avant-coureurs de la remont\u00e9e du magma peuvent \u00eatre exploit\u00e9s par des r\u00e9seaux de surveillance des volcans actifs.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">L&rsquo;\u00e9tude des affleurements d&rsquo;anciens syst\u00e8mes volcaniques \u00e9teints et \u00e9rod\u00e9s renseigne \u00e9galement sur les m\u00e9canismes en jeu lors de la p\u00e9riode d&rsquo;activit\u00e9.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">L&rsquo;indice VEI :<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On a propos\u00e9 l&rsquo;Index Volcanique d&rsquo;Explosivit\u00e9, ou VEI, en 1982 comme mani\u00e8re de d\u00e9crire la taille ou l&rsquo;importance relative d&rsquo;\u00e9ruptions volcaniques explosives.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">C&rsquo;est un index allant de 0-\u00e0-8 d&rsquo;explosivit\u00e9 croissant.
