Antar\u00e8s est ce que les astronomes appellent une superg\u00e9ante rouge \u2013 l\u2019un des derniers stades de l\u2019\u00e9volution des \u00e9toiles les plus massives.<\/p>\n<p>Antar\u00e8s est une \u00e9toile super-g\u00e9ante rouge dont la masse est de l\u2019ordre de 12 fois la masse du Soleil. Antar\u00e8s est donc suffisamment massive pour exploser en supernova. Mais il est tr\u00e8s difficile de pr\u00e9voir quand, cela peut tr\u00e8s bien \u00eatre dans quelques dizaines ou centaines de milliers d\u2019ann\u00e9e voire plus.<\/p>\n<p>Mais, dans le cas o\u00f9 elle exploserait vraiment, elle \u00e9jecterait \u00e9norm\u00e9ment de mati\u00e8re et produirait une quantit\u00e9 ph\u00e9nom\u00e9nale de lumi\u00e8re. Elle se trouve \u00e0 environ 600 ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re et ce serait vraiment spectaculaire pour nous !<\/p>\n<p>Mais, le risque pour nous est faible. Elle se trouve plus loin que Antar\u00e8s (8000 ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re donc aucun risque non plus) mais elle pourrait exploser en supernova demain &#8230; ou peut-\u00eatre dans 1000 ans.<\/p>\n<p>Une \u00e9quipe dirig\u00e9e par l\u2019astronome Keiichi Ohnaka (Instituto de Astronomia, Universidad Cat\u00f3lica del Norte, Antofagasta, Chili) a r\u00e9cemment observ\u00e9 Antar\u00e8s \u00e0 tr\u00e8s haute r\u00e9solution en proche infrarouge avec l\u2019instrument AMBER de l\u2019interf\u00e9rom\u00e8tre VLTI de l\u2019observatoire europ\u00e9en austral du Cerro Paranal (Chili). L\u2019article que cette \u00e9quipe a publi\u00e9 dans la revue Nature est un premier pas vers la compr\u00e9hension de ce processus. Keiichi Ohnaka et ses coll\u00e8gues ont en effet r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 dresser la carte des vitesses relatives des masses gazeuses \u00e0 la surface d\u2019Antar\u00e8s et dans son atmosph\u00e8re, qui s\u2019\u00e9tend jusqu\u2019\u00e0 1,7 rayon stellaire, ce qui n\u2019avait jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 fait pour une autre \u00e9toile que le Soleil. Ils ont ainsi mis en \u00e9vidence d\u2019immenses masses gazeuses qui montent et descendent dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re avec des vitesses pouvant varier de \u2013 20 \u00e0 + 20 km\/s sur la ligne de vis\u00e9e et ils ont pu obtenir l\u2019image la plus d\u00e9taill\u00e9e \u00e0 ce jour du disque d\u2019Antar\u00e8s.<\/p><div class=\"1665f18d14f35dd9e7566e1a8ac9a3e9\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2860849627502538\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3019501113\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>L\u2019analyse de ces donn\u00e9es montre que cette \u00e9toile superg\u00e9ante rouge n\u2019expulse pas sa mati\u00e8re d\u2019une mani\u00e8re r\u00e9guli\u00e8re, comme sous l\u2019action d\u2019un puissant vent stellaire homog\u00e8ne, mais d\u2019une mani\u00e8re turbulente, al\u00e9atoire. \u00ab Notre carte montre que les mouvements des gaz dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re sont chaotiques et ne peuvent pas \u00eatre expliqu\u00e9s uniquement par la convection, pr\u00e9cise Keiichi Ohnaka. Nous ne savons pas si ces mouvements sont li\u00e9s \u00e0 des fluctuations du champ magn\u00e9tique, comme dans le Soleil, ou \u00e0 un autre processus. Des observations compl\u00e9mentaires seront n\u00e9cessaires pour tester les id\u00e9es que nous pouvons avoir. \u00bb Ces astronomes vont notamment tenter d\u2019obtenir des cartes des vitesses des d\u00e9placements gazeux \u00e0 diff\u00e9rentes profondeurs dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re d\u2019Antar\u00e8s, afin d\u2019en construire une carte tridimensionnelle.
