Une faille de plus d&rsquo;environ 200 km s&rsquo;\u00e9tait form\u00e9e avec le continent.<\/p>\n<p>Son \u00e9volution \u00e9tait scrut\u00e9e par les scientifiques : un des plus gros icebergs jamais vus a fini par se d\u00e9tacher du continent Antarctique, a annonc\u00e9 un groupe de scientifique gallois, mercredi 12 juillet 2017, se basant sur des images satellite de la Nasa. D&rsquo;une superficie estim\u00e9e \u00e0 5 800 km\u00b2, \u00e9quivalente \u00e0 celle d&rsquo;un d\u00e9partement comme le Gard ou la Corr\u00e8ze, il se d\u00e9tachait progressivement depuis des ann\u00e9es : la faille qui le s\u00e9parait du continent avait \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couverte en 2011. Elle s&rsquo;\u00e9tait \u00e9tendue progressivement, pour atteindre environ 200 km de longueur.<\/p>\n<p>Cet iceberg s&rsquo;est d\u00e9tach\u00e9 de Larsen C, une barri\u00e8re de glace de l&rsquo;Antarctique, c&rsquo;est \u00e0 dire un morceau de glace form\u00e9 par l&rsquo;avanc\u00e9e sur la mer d&rsquo;un glacier. Mais elle pourrait entra\u00eener la d\u00e9sint\u00e9gration de la barri\u00e8re de glace Larsen C, explique l&rsquo;ESA, un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne qui s&rsquo;\u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 produit avec Larsen B, en 2002, et Larsen A, en 1995. Cette barri\u00e8re retient des glaciers capables, eux, de faire gagner 10 cm aux mers du monde s&rsquo;ils finissaient par se trouver \u00e0 terme expos\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;oc\u00e9an.<\/p>\n<p>Le d\u00e9tachement de cet iceberg \u00ab\u00a0est un \u00e9v\u00e9nement naturel, et nous n&rsquo;avons pas connaissance d&rsquo;un quelconque lien avec le changement climatique li\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;homme\u00a0\u00bb, affirme Martin O\u2019Leary, un autre membre du groupe de scientifique gallois.
