Situ\u00e9e dans la zone habitable autour d&rsquo;une \u00e9toile situ\u00e9e \u00e0 40 ann\u00e9es lumi\u00e8res de notre syst\u00e8me solaire, ce monde rocheux a toutes les caract\u00e9ristiques pour qu&rsquo;on y d\u00e9couvre \u00e9ventuellement la pr\u00e9sence d&rsquo;eau \u00e0 sa surface.<\/p>\n<p>LHS 1140b grimpe en t\u00eate de la liste des mondes potentiellement habitables.<\/p>\n<p>A un jet de pierre de la Terre<\/p>\n<p>La litt\u00e9rature mondiale en mati\u00e8re d&rsquo;astrophysique s&rsquo;enrichit presque chaque semaine de nouvelles publications relatives \u00e0 la d\u00e9couverte de nouvelles exoplan\u00e8tes. En 20 ans, gr\u00e2ce aux progr\u00e8s de l&rsquo;observation de l&rsquo;espace lointain, plus de 3.600 exoplan\u00e8tes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 recens\u00e9es. Mais moins de 200 sont probablement telluriques et leur nombre se r\u00e9duit \u00e0 peau de chagrin quand il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;h\u00e9berger potentiellement la vie.<\/p>\n<p>D&rsquo;o\u00f9 l&rsquo;enthousiasme des chercheurs \u00e0 la lecture de la publication dirig\u00e9e par Jason Dittmann du Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics au sujet de sa derni\u00e8re d\u00e9couverte, r\u00e9alis\u00e9e lors de son transit devant son \u00e9toile : LHC 1140b, qu&rsquo;il d\u00e9crit comme \u00ab\u00a0l&rsquo;exoplan\u00e8te la plus enthousiasmante de la d\u00e9cennie\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Des conditions id\u00e9ales pour la Vie<\/p><div class=\"1665f18d14f35dd9e7566e1a8ac9a3e9\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2860849627502538\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3019501113\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>D&rsquo;abord par sa proximit\u00e9 : LHC 1140b graviterait autour d&rsquo;une \u00e9toile situ\u00e9e \u00e0 40 ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8res de notre syst\u00e8me solaire, soit au coin de la rue \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle cosmique. Son diam\u00e8tre serait une fois et demie plus grand que celui de la Terre, sa masse 6,6 fois plus importante. Ce \u00ab\u00a0super-monde\u00a0\u00bb rocheux \u00e9voluerait surtout dans la zone habitable de son soleil.<\/p>\n<p>La prochaine \u00e9tape sera l&rsquo;\u00e9tude de l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re de LHC 1140b, qui r\u00e9v\u00e8lera ou non si elle poss\u00e8de les ingr\u00e9dients indispensables \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9panouissement de la vie, comme l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne, le dioxide de carbone ou le m\u00e9thane. L&rsquo;\u00e9tude de son rayonnement permettra d&rsquo;\u00e9valuer l&rsquo;\u00e9paisseur de cette atmosph\u00e8re, si elle existe, d&rsquo;en d\u00e9terminer la composition, de conna\u00eetre la pr\u00e9sence \u00e9ventuelle de nuages, etc. L&rsquo;observation de LHC 1140b est par ailleurs facilit\u00e9 du fait de l&rsquo;\u00e9toile autour de laquelle elle gravite : il s&rsquo;agit en effet d&rsquo;une naine rouge, le type d&rsquo;\u00e9toile le plus fr\u00e9quent dans notre univers. Sa taille n&rsquo;exc\u00e8de pas un cinqui\u00e8me de celle de notre Soleil. Elle a aussi l&rsquo;avantage d&rsquo;\u00eatre faiblement rayonnante donc beaucoup plus froide, et faiblement active.
