Cette avanc\u00e9e scientifique constitue un premier pas vers le d\u00e9veloppement d&rsquo;organes humains par des animaux, qui pourraient \u00eatre r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9s et greff\u00e9s \u00e0 des personnes malades. C&rsquo;est \u00ab\u00a0une premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape importante\u00a0\u00bb, a soulign\u00e9 Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, professeur \u00e0 l&rsquo;Institut Salk d&rsquo;\u00e9tudes biologiques \u00e0 La Jolla, en Californie, principal auteur de ces travaux.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Le but ultime est de cultiver des tissus ou des organes humains (pancr\u00e9as, foie, coeur&#8230;) chez des animaux comme des truies qui pourront \u00eatre greff\u00e9s sans rejet, mais nous en sommes encore loin\u00a0\u00bb, a-t-il temp\u00e9r\u00e9, reconnaissant la grande difficult\u00e9 de cette exp\u00e9rience men\u00e9e avec quelque 1.500 embryons porcins pendant quatre ans. Ces scientifiques ont implant\u00e9 des cellules souches humaines, capables de devenir n&rsquo;importe quel tissu, dans des embryons de cochons ensuite transf\u00e9r\u00e9s dans l&rsquo;ut\u00e9rus de truies porteuses. Cette exp\u00e9rience n&rsquo;a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 men\u00e9e jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 son terme avec la naissance de porcelets en partie humains, un sujet tr\u00e8s controvers\u00e9 qui soul\u00e8ve d&rsquo;importantes questions \u00e9thiques. Dans le cadre de ces travaux, les chercheurs pr\u00e9cisent que la proportion de cellules souches humaines dans leurs exp\u00e9riences \u00e9tait de toute mani\u00e8re faible.<\/p>\n<p>Une pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente exp\u00e9rience avait permis de faire d\u00e9velopper un pancr\u00e9as, un coeur et des yeux de rats dans des embryons de souris, d\u00e9montrant qu&rsquo;il est possible de d\u00e9velopper des organes d&rsquo;une esp\u00e8ce dans une autre. Bruce Whitelaw, professeur de biotechnologie animale \u00e0 l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 d&rsquo;Edinbourgh au Royaume-Uni, estime que ces travaux sur les embryons chim\u00e8res humains-porcins, \u00e0 laquelle il n&rsquo;a pas particip\u00e9, sont \u00ab\u00a0emballants\u00a0\u00bb car \u00ab\u00a0ils ouvrent la voie \u00e0 des avanc\u00e9es importantes\u00a0\u00bb dans ce domaine.
