La Ni\u00f1a, courant froid \u00e9quatorial du Pacifique, devrait appara\u00eetre dans les semaines \u00e0 venir pour subsister pendant les six derniers mois de 2016. Mais comment fonctionne ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne? Ses autres surnoms, El Viejo ou anti-El Ni\u00f1o, renvoient toujours \u00e0 son terrible grand fr\u00e8re. Ses cons\u00e9quences sont en effet souvent moins d\u00e9vastatrices. Sa survenue n&rsquo;est m\u00eame pas automatique d&rsquo;ailleurs. \u00ab\u00a0Seules 14 El Ni\u00f1a ont \u00e9t\u00e9 not\u00e9es, pour 23 El Ni\u00f1o, dans notre registre historique, qui remonte \u00e0 1950\u00a0\u00bb, note la NOAA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Globalement, La Ni\u00f1a fait baisser le mercure dans l&rsquo;Asie du Sud-Est et dans l&rsquo;ouest de l&rsquo;Am\u00e9rique latine, tandis que l&rsquo;est de l&rsquo;Australie a plus chaud et voient les pluies s&rsquo;intensifier. Elle a aussi tendance \u00e0 minimiser la mousson en Inde mais \u00e0 la renforcer en Asie du Sud-Est. Sa survenue correspond \u00e0 des ann\u00e9es o\u00f9 les ouragans sont moins nombreux dans le Pacifique mais plus intenses dans l&rsquo;Atlantique nord.
