Le dispositif comprend une sph\u00e8re constitu\u00e9e d\u2019un polym\u00e8re acrylique \u00e0 99 % de transparence et remplie d\u2019eau qui concentre les rayons du soleil incidents en son point focal. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 cet \u00ab effet loupe \u00bb, les rayons du Soleil ou de la Lune, sont concentr\u00e9s plus de 10 000 fois, ce qui permet au dispositif de fonctionner de jour, comme de nuit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La lumi\u00e8re ainsi concentr\u00e9e est dirig\u00e9e vers des panneaux photovolta\u00efques \u00e0 haut rendement situ\u00e9s sous la sph\u00e8re. Ces cellules photovolta\u00efques multijonctions sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement utilis\u00e9es pour les applications spatiales : elles se composent de plusieurs couches qui ont la particularit\u00e9 de convertir diff\u00e9rentes longueurs d\u2019onde du spectre solaire en \u00e9nergie.
