Un compos\u00e9 organique, le ribose, a \u00e9t\u00e9 synth\u00e9tis\u00e9 par une \u00e9quipe de chercheurs du Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS). Si cette d\u00e9couverte est si importante, c\u2019est \u00e0 la fois parce que ce \u00ab sucre \u00bb est apparu alors que les scientifiques tentaient de reproduire la formation d\u2019une com\u00e8te, et parce qu\u2019il est l\u2019un des compos\u00e9s de base de la vie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">L\u2019\u00e9quipe du CNRS, qui publie ses r\u00e9sultats dans la revue Science, a recr\u00e9\u00e9 les conditions environnementales d\u2019une n\u00e9buleuse, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 ces objets c\u00e9lestes naissent. Un m\u00e9lange d\u2019eau, de m\u00e9thanol et d\u2019ammoniac sous vide et \u00e0 -200 \u00b0C a donn\u00e9 forme autour de poussi\u00e8res \u00e0 des sortes de com\u00e8tes artificielles, qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9es \u00e0 des rayonnements ultraviolets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Apr\u00e8s les avoir ramen\u00e9es \u00e0 temp\u00e9rature ambiante, comme si les com\u00e8tes se rapprochaient du soleil et atteignaient la Terre, leur composition a \u00e9t\u00e9 analys\u00e9e. Le ribose, c\u2019est le R dans l\u2019ARN, l\u2019acide ribonucl\u00e9ique. Cette mol\u00e9cule biologique, pr\u00e9sente chez presque tous les \u00eatres vivants, est l\u2019une des bases du mat\u00e9riel g\u00e9n\u00e9tique. Elle pourrait \u00eatre, pour autant que l\u2019on sache aujourd\u2019hui, la ou l\u2019une des premi\u00e8res mol\u00e9cules caract\u00e9ristiques de la vie sur Terre.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, aucun indice n\u2019avait laiss\u00e9 penser que le ribose pouvait provenir des com\u00e8tes. Des acides amin\u00e9s y avaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 retrouv\u00e9s, mais quelques cha\u00eenons manquaient pour pouvoir confirmer la th\u00e9orie selon laquelle les \u00e9l\u00e9ments essentiels \u00e0 l\u2019apparition de la vie pouvaient en provenir. Cette d\u00e9couverte pourrait bien venir apporter l\u2019un d\u2019entre eux.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Et maintenant ?<br \/>\nQuelques \u00e9l\u00e9ments viennent n\u00e9anmoins temp\u00e9rer les chercheurs qui ne crient pas encore victoire. Rien ne prouve encore que les riboses recueillis sont compatibles avec celui de l\u2019ARN. Et m\u00eame si c\u2019\u00e9tait le cas, encore faut-il trouver la mani\u00e8re dont le ribose s\u2019assemble avec les autres compos\u00e9s de l\u2019ARN.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cela dit, ces nouvelles informations ouvrent des portes lorsqu\u2019on consid\u00e8re la quantit\u00e9 potentiellement \u00e9norme de r\u00e9sidus de com\u00e8tes et d\u2019autres min\u00e9raux pr\u00e9sents sur Terre dans une \u00ab soupe \u00bb originelle.
