Le Sahara aurait \u00e9galement verdoy\u00e9 au cours de l&rsquo;avant derni\u00e8re p\u00e9riode glaciaire, entre &#8211; 180 000 et &#8211; 170 000 ans, avant de retourner brutalement, en un si\u00e8cle, au type de climat que nous lui connaissons aujourd&rsquo;hui.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">De nombreuses recherches ont depuis longtemps r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 qu&rsquo;avant d&rsquo;\u00eatre un d\u00e9sert aride, le Sahara avait \u00e9t\u00e9 largement irrigu\u00e9 au cours d&rsquo;une p\u00e9riode baptis\u00e9e \u00ab\u00a0p\u00e9riode africaine humide\u00a0\u00bb, entre &#8211; 14 500 et &#8211; 5 500 ans. Cette p\u00e9riode climatique, qui correspond au d\u00e9but de la p\u00e9riode interglaciaire dans laquelle nous vivons, pr\u00e9sentait effectivement un ensoleillement suffisant pour d\u00e9clencher de fortes moussons sur le nord du continent africain.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Le climat de la partie sud du Sahara d\u00e9pend notamment de la position de la zone de convergence intertropicale ou ITCZ(1). Ce front atmosph\u00e9rique, le fameux \u00ab\u00a0pot au noir\u00a0\u00bb des navigateurs, concentre en effet beaucoup d&rsquo;humidit\u00e9 et peut donc y d\u00e9clencher des pluies d&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9 lorsqu&rsquo;il remonte assez loin vers le nord. Il agit aussi sur la force et la direction des vents en provenance du continent, entra\u00eenant des modifications de la circulation oc\u00e9anique c\u00f4ti\u00e8re. Ainsi, lorsqu&rsquo;il est en position hivernale, il induit une accentuation des aliz\u00e9s, provoquant des upwellings cot\u00e9 Atlantique, c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire des remont\u00e9es d&rsquo;eaux profondes, froides et riches en nutriments, avec pour cons\u00e9quence directe une explosion de la productivit\u00e9 primaire en surface et donc une multiplication des organismes marins que l&rsquo;on retrouve par la suite dans les s\u00e9diments marins. En \u00e9t\u00e9, c&rsquo;est l&rsquo;inverse qui se produit : la r\u00e9duction des vents diminue l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 des upwellings c\u00f4tiers, r\u00e9duisant ainsi la quantit\u00e9 de mati\u00e8re produite en surface. Le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne est invers\u00e9 du cot\u00e9 de l&rsquo;oc\u00e9an Indien.<\/span><\/span><\/p><div class=\"1665f18d14f35dd9e7566e1a8ac9a3e9\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2860849627502538\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3019501113\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Des chercheurs du laboratoire Environnements et pal\u00e9oenvironnements oc\u00e9aniques (EPOC, Universit\u00e9 Bordeaux 1 \/ CNRS \/ \u00c9cole pratique des hautes \u00e9tudes Paris) ont conduit une analyse faunistique et g\u00e9ochimique de s\u00e9diments marins pr\u00e9lev\u00e9s au large de la Mauritanie \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide du carottier du Marion Dufresne dans le cadre du programme IMAGES.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Ils ont ainsi pu mettre en \u00e9vidence une r\u00e9duction importante des upwellings ainsi qu&rsquo;une diminution des vents (absence de grains de quartz \u00e9oliens dans les couches s\u00e9dimentaires correspondantes) au cours de l&rsquo;avant-derni\u00e8re p\u00e9riode glaciaire, entre &#8211; 180 000 et &#8211; 170 000 ans (sous-stade glaciaire MIS 6.5). Ces deux observations tendent \u00e0 indiquer que l&rsquo;ITCZ aurait migr\u00e9 pour se positionner sous ces latitudes nord durant toute cette p\u00e9riode. Il est donc probable que pendant environ 10 000 ans, un fort climat de mousson se soit install\u00e9 au nord du continent africain, irriguant abondamment le Sahara.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">La seconde information surprenante est la vitesse \u00e0 laquelle les conditions climatiques semblent avoir chang\u00e9 par la suite.
